Barrett is the founder of G-Startup Worldwide, co-founding partner of GWC Innovator Fund, and a co-founder of GWC.
Founded in 2010, G-Startup Worldwide is a global program that helps high potential, pre-A startups around the world to raise capital from top investors. The program’s alumni have raised over $11 billion, with notable alumni Didi Chuxing ($35B Valuation), App Annie ($157M from Sequoia, IDG, IVP), and Wandoujia (acquired by Alibaba). Other alumni have been acquired by Google, Amazon, Apple and Pinterest. Each year, thousands of startups apply for G-Startup programs in Tel Aviv, Beijing, Bangalore, Silicon Valley, Jakarta, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Hong Kong, and the most promising of these startups are funded by the GWC Innovator Fund.
In 2009, Barrett co-founded GWC in Beijing and he has been instrumental in scaling globally. GWC’s flagship conference, GMIC, has become one of the most influential tech events in the world, drawing over 100,000 attendees to events in 10 countries. At GWC, Barrett and his co-founders have raised venture capital from Tencent, DST (Yuri Milner), Xiaomi, Qualcomm, Baidu, Sina and Didi Chuxing.
Barrett graduated from the MIT Sloan and Tsinghua University International MBA program and has continued his executive education at Stanford GSB, Harvard Business School, and UC Berkeley. He is based in Silicon Valley and is regularly mentioned in tech media including Forbes, Entrepreneur, Bloomberg, Techcrunch and China Daily.
